Remarks for the Time Period
0735 hrs.   T  T  31.5   The snow just started as very fine flakes and is barely visible.
0900 hrs.   0.8  0.04  28.9  The snow became large flakes around 0800 and started earlier and harder than forecast. The current snow rate is moderate.
1000 hrs.   1.2  0.07  28.9  Snow is still melting as it falls on cement walks and our street is still black. Snow flakes are small aggregates of broken and irregular crystals and with very few single crystals. The snow intensity is a little less than moderate this past hour.
1100 hrs.   1.8  0.11  29.0  The snow intensity has increased in the last 20 minutes of this period to a moderate to heavy rate but the rate was only light in the first part of this past hour. Snow flakes are larger aggregates of broken and irregular crystals now. The street is now white with snow as the intensity is now more than the melting rate on the road.
1200 hrs.   2.6  0.20  29.1   The snow intensity has increased to a moderate to heavy rate as we had 0.8 inches in the past hour. Snow flakes are medium size aggregates of broken and irregular crystals now. The highest wind so far is only 12 mph at 1145.
1300 hrs.   3.5  0.28  28.9   The snow intensity has increased to a heavy rate as we had 0.9 inches in the past hour. Snow flakes this past hour are large aggregates of broken and irregular crystals now. The highest wind so far is 15 mph at 1213. Snow is sticking to Pines, shrubs, and other trees and is becoming very scenic.
1400 hrs.   4.4  0.38  29.0  The snow intensity has increased to a heavy rate as we had 0.9 inches in the past hour. Snow flakes this past hour are large aggregates of broken and irregular crystals now.
1500 hrs.   6.0  0.58  29.0  The snow intensity has heavy rate in the first 35 to 40 minutes of the past hour then the rate decreased to light. The snow intensity for the hour was a heavy rate as we had 1.6 inches in the past hour even with the light snow at the end of the hour. The snow rate must have been a little more than 2 inches per hour in the first 35 minutes. Snowing so hard this pass hour that the heater hasn't melted all the snow in the gauge so the Liquid amount is more than recorded here but the auxiliary heat source was put on and will catch up by the next hour
1600 hrs.   7.2  0.75  29.1  The snow intensity for the hour was a heavy rate as we had 1.2 inches in the past hour. This is going to be a major snow for Glen Allen as there looks to be much more snow to fall looking at the radar. The the auxiliary heater has melted most of the snow in the gauge so the liquid amount is now close to being correct.
1700 hrs.   8.6  0.88  29.5  This past hour the camera had to be raised as it was getting buried in the snow. The snow camera image is much sharper now. The snow was also cleared from the sky mirror as it was also getting buried in snow. The snow intensity for the hour was a heavy rate as we had 1.4 inches in the past hour. The highest wind so far is only 16 mph at 1358.
1800 hrs.   9.9  .98  29.5  The snow intensity for the hour was a heavy rate as we had 1.3 inches in the past hour. The highest wind so far is 17 mph at 1709. The highest wind so far is only 16 mph at 1358.
1900 hrs.   11.2  1.09  29.7  The snow intensity for the hour was a heavy rate as we had 1.3 inches in the past hour. This past hour the camera had to be raised again as it was getting buried in the snow.
2000 hrs.   11.7  1.14  30.0  The snow intensity for the hour was a moderate rate as we had 0.5 inches in the past hour and the temperature has increased 0.3°F.
2100 hrs.   11.9  1.16  30.1   The warmer temperatures of 0.4°F in the past two hours and the deep snow is settling faster than it is snowing. So, this hour was started with a new snowboard for future snowfall. Snowfall rate has decreased and the snow crystals show moderate riming but not enough to sleet more like graupel. Looking at the mirror there was some snow pellets before ending in this dry slot period now. Also, the auxiliary heat source was turned off during this obs. period.
2200 hrs.   11.9  1.16  29.7  Only a few flurries in the past hour no additional accumulation. Note the 0.4°F temperature drop in the past hour.
2300 hrs.   11.9  1.16  29.7  Only a few flurries in the past hour no additional accumulation just a trace. It is interesting to watch the snow depth decrease now from settling. The snow depth is already less than 11 inches. It does look like some additional sleet or freezing rain may occur after midnight but with little additional accumulation.
2400 hrs.   11.9  1.16  29.4  No additional accumulation in the past hour. The snow depth decrease now from settling is already around 10.5 inches.
