Remarks for the Time Period
00240 hrs.   T  T  32.8  The snow just started. Looking at radar one snow band had to pass before the atmosphere was moist enough let the snow hit the ground.
0340 hrs.   T  T  31.4  There was a gap in the snow before getting into the main body of snow so very little snow this past hour. The temperature has fallen 1.4F in the past hour.
0440 hrs.   T  T  31.0  Just to the north of Springfield Park the snow is heavier like at Ashland and at 4 AM the radar shows no snow over the city of Richmond. Snow is still very light here and the deck isn't even white yet and Richmond remains in a dry slot at 0440. At 0440 it has all but stopped snowing here and is still not enough to measure.
0540 hrs.   0.5  0.04  30.0  The snowfall rate has really increased this past hour and the street already has white patches on it but is not yet completely covered.
0640 hrs.   1.1  0.10  29.5  The snowfall rate has really increased this past hour and the street and yard is now completely white. The sky mirror’s LED lights under the snow has made a beautiful blue hue halo. The snow is now falling as mainly small aggregates of broken and irregular snow crystals. The camera is looking down on the snowboard not across the snow surface thus making the snow measurement look less than it is. This was a moderate snowfall rate this past hour.
0740 hrs.   1.9  0.19  29.4  Moderate snow rate this past hour.
0840 hrs.   2.6  0.26  29.6  The snowboard the camera is taking images is an elevated snowboard and is not used for measurements. The station has 3 other snow boards that are used to take an average snow depth. The last time we had this much snow was December 9, 2018 when we had 11.9 inches. The snow rate this past hour was moderate.
0940 hrs.   3.5  0.35  30.1  Snowfall rate is now nearly heavy as we have had 0.9 inches this past hour.
1040 hrs.   4.2  0.42  30.5  At 1010 the snowfall rate is now appearing to be heavy and the snow has changed over to large aggregates of many crystals. At 1030 the large aggregates quickly turned to sleet and I took a snow measurement very quickly. The snowfall total was 4.2 inches and the liquid equivalent was 0.42 inches.
1140 hrs.   3.9  0.53  31.3  Sleet and freezing rain this past hour.
1200 hrs.   3.8  0.56  31.7  Around noon the precipitation became only freezing rain.
1645 hrs.   2.6  0.69  32.7  Since the noon report we have had 0.13 inches of rain and it is still a little above freezing.
