Remarks for the Time Period
0      2225 hrs.   T  T  36.7  The precipitation started as very light snow flurries and the flakes melted on contact on surfaces.
1      2325 hrs.   T  T  34.5  At 1045 some larger flakes were falling but still melting on the illumined sky mirror. The temperature has fallen 2.2°F this past hour and the melting has slowed some.
2      2400 hrs.   0.1  0.01  33.6  Looking at the radar most of the heavier precipitation is now to the east of Richmond. The coastal low is developing thus the heavier accumulations will be centered between Richmond and the coastal area. What snow Glen Allen receives can be observed on the snow board tonight.

 2016
0100 hrs.   0.5  0.04  32.6  The snowfall rate was 0.4 inches per hour this past hour which is considered as light to moderate. A moderate snowfall rate is general considered more than 0.5 inches per hour.
4      0200 hrs.   0.7  0.05  32.2  The snowfall rate decreased this past hour to only 0.2 inches a very light snowfall rate.
5      0300 hrs.   0.9  0.07  31.9  Still a very light snowfall rate and is melting on the warm ground. Also all of the snow falling on the driveway is melting.
6      0400 hrs.   1.3  0.10  31.4  Snowfall rate increased this past hour to 0.4 inches per hour. Observers without snow boards are going to measure much less snow because of the warm ground melting the snow.
7      0500 hrs.   1.8  0.13  31.4  The highest snowfall rate so far and the snow to water ratio is high 13.6 to one. Some of the snow flake forms are really pretty as a few show stellar crystals and dendrites which aren't as common as many think. The snowfall rate was decreasing in the last ten minutes of the past hour.
8      0600 hrs.   1.9  0.14  31.9  The snow ended around 0515 as flurries. The total water content as checked with a core sample. The total liquid content was 0.14 inches and the maximum snow on the snow board was 1.9 inches. Thus the snow to liquid equivalent ratio was 13.6 to one. Some snow stuck to the branches of trees and made a pretty morning scene. Also the snow never stuck to the streets in our neighborhood and not even the driveways thus this event should be a low impact event for most.
