Remarks for the Time Period
0100 hrs.   T  T  35.2  The snow has just started.
0130 hrs.   0.2  0.01  31.5  The snow came on fairly fast and by 0030 the temperature was already freezing and the ground was almost white. Some large aggregate flakes of snow mixed in the current snowfall.
0200 hrs.   0.4  0.02  30.6  The current snowfall rate is light to moderate and the temperature continues to fall. About 50% of the flakes are large aggregate flakes of snow mixed in with smaller crystals that are broken and irregular.
0300 hrs.   1.1  0.09  30.0  At 0230 the street was about 50% white with snow and the temperature was 30.1°F. Snowfall rate is now moderate with 0.7 inches in the past hour and our street is now completely white.
0400 hrs.   2.0  0.16  29.5   The snowfall rate continues to be moderate to heavy this past hour with 0.9 inches of snow in the past hour. Currently the basic snow form is broken and irregular particles and rarely seen single crystals with a few needles. The irregular particles also show some riming in the last ten minutes of this period.
0500 hrs.   2.8  0.21  29.5  The snowfall rate continues to be moderate to heavy this past hour with 0.8 inches of snow in the past hour. The highest wind so far is 14 mph at 1:07am. The highest wind this past hour is 11 mph. Currently the basic snow form is around 75% needles the most I remember in a long time and they really sparkle under the flood lights. Needle crystals form in a layer aloft where the temperature is around -5°C or 23°F.
0600 hrs.   3.6  0.29  29.3  At 0520 there were still needels but not as many and riming was much more apparent. some dendrites with a heavy coat of rime to the point of nearly not showing their form. Aso some were now in the form of snow pellets. The snowfall rate continues to be moderate to heavy this past hour with 0.8 inches of snow in the past hour.
0700 hrs.   4.0  0.34  29.3  The snowfall rate was moderate this past hour with 0.4 inches of snow in the past hour. At 0630 with 3.8 inches of snow a core sample was taken and the liquid equivalent was 0.33 inches thus the snow to liquid equivalent ratio was 11.5 to 1. Also 0.01 inches needed to be added to the heated tripping bucket gauge to make up for evaporation.
0800 hrs.   4.4  0.38  29.8  The snowfall rate was moderate this past hour with 0.4 inches of snow in the past hour. Looking at the radar the snowstorm is about over and should end by 9am for Glen Allen. Maximum wind gust in the last hours was 16 mph that occurred at 0737 hours which is a new maximum for the day.
0900 hrs.   4.7  0.40  30.6  Snowfall is tapering off at 0900 and from the radar it appears that the accumulating snowfall is over here. Currently we only have snow flurries and the sky is brightening.
0945 hrs.   4.7  0.40  31.2  This ends this snow event. Not enough additional snow fell in the past hour to yield an additional 0.1 inches. There may be a few additional snow flurries but no additional accumulations.
