Obs. Num. Time of Observation December
5  -   2005
Total Frozen Precip. Inches Total Melted Precip. Inches Temp. °F Remarks for the Time Period
0      1330 hrs.    0.0   0.00   35.5   First snow flakes observed but by 1337 easily observed.
1      1430 hrs.    0.2   0.01   32.1   The lawn is starting to get white and the temperature has dropped almost to freezing now.
2      1530 hrs.    0.6   0.04   31.3   Snow is melting as it falls on cement walks and streets.Snowfall rate is currently light. Currently the basic snow flake form is broken and irregular particles and rarely seen single crystals.
3      1630 hrs.    0.9   0.06   30.4   Snow is sticking to Hemlocks, shrubs, and other trees and is becoming very scenic. Snowfall rate continues to be light this past hour is currently light. Snow is still melting as it falls on cement walks and our street. The basic snow flake form is broken and irregular particles.
4      1730 hrs.    1.4   0.10   30.0   Snowfall rate has increased during the past hour and is now light to moderate. Snow is now sticking as it falls on the cement walks and our street. The street is now white. Snow crystals are broken and irregular but a very few are single dendrite crystals
5      1830 hrs.    1.6   0.11   29.9   Snowfall rate has decreased during the past hour and is now is very light. Snow is melting on the street and with the slower snow rate it is no longer white but just slushy.
6      1930 hrs.    1.8   0.12   29.8   Snowfall rate has increased during the last fifteen minutes and is now falling at a moderate rate. The street is no longer white but still just slushy. Snow in the form of larger aggregates of crystals now with light riming!
7      2030 hrs.    2.0   0.13   29.8   Snowfall rate during the past hour was light. Some of the snow flake forms are now really pretty as a few show stellar crystals and plate crystals- (I don't seen these very often) and even dendrites but others show a light to moderate amount of rime.
8      2130 hrs.    2.1   0.14   29.7   Snowfall rate during the past hour was light. Many of the snow flakes are showing a moderate amount of rime. The street and with the slower snow rate it is no longer white but just slushy.
9      2230 hrs.    2.2   0.16   29.7   Snowfall rate during the past hour was light. Flakes are now larger and falling as aggregates or flakes interfused and still with light riming. The snow is now sticking to the edge of the street but the center is just slushy.
10    2330 hrs.    2.3   0.17   29.6   Flakes are now small aggregates with a moderate amount of riming. Snowfall rate during the past hour was again light but steady.

0030 hrs.
2.8   0.21   29.1   Moderate snow during the past hour and water content checked in standing precipitation gauge. The correction was 0.02 for evaporation caused by the precipitation gauge heat source in the tripping bucket gauge.
12    0130 hrs.    3.2   0.23   29.0   Moderate snowfall rate during the past hour. Larger aggregates or fluffy assemblages of many crystals now leaving a more uneven snow surface. Moderate snow rate continues and our street is now completely white.
13    0230 hrs.    4.4   0.29   28.9   Heavy snow during the last hour with 1.2 inches falling in the last hour. Large aggregates or fluffy assemblages of many crystals now leaves an uneven snow surface and traps more air spaces in the snow and increases the snow to water ratio.
14    0330 hrs.    4.5   0.30   28.9   Snow became very light around 0255 and only flurries by 0300. Also there was a little settling of the snow from last hour so very little additional accumulation.
15    0415 hrs.    4.5   0.30   28.2   The measurable snow is over for Annandale. Only a few light snow flurries now.
