The diameter of the stroke averages about the width of a pencil but carries so much energy that it blew this hole in the neighbor's backyard.
The energy of this lightning bolt followed his irrigation system to the control box and melted the control box to the wall. The key to the right is shown to give one
an idea of the size of the hole. They were fortunate that the energy did not cause a fire.
