Remarks for the Time Period
1627 hrs.   T  T  28.2  First flakes of snow seen in the Glen Allen area.
1745 hrs.   0.2  .01  24.4  Very light snow so far this past hour. The dew point has increased about 10°F as the snow increases the relative humidity.
1845 hrs.   0.7  0.05  23.8  Snowfall this past hour has been moderate with 0.5 inches of new snow.
1945 hrs.   1.6  0.11  23.9  Snow heavy this past hour with 0.9 inch increase.
2045 hrs.   2.4  0.16  24.2  Snow rate is moderate to heavy and the snow board that has the camera is getting some snow blown off of it. Also the tripping bucket gauge hasn't melted all the snow that has fallen this past hour!
2145 hrs.   2.9  0.22  24.7  Moderate snow rate this past hour. Looking at the radar the next hour should have heavy snow! The maximum wind gust so far is 19 mph
2245 hrs.   3.9  0.36  25.0  One inch per hour this past hour and I melted the snow in one gauge and had 0.36 inches.
2400 hrs.   4.6  0.50  25.3  Between 2320 and 2325 I took a core sample and we had 4.3 inches of snow and 0.42 inches of liquid. The peak wind has been 22 mph at 2331 and has been increasing and the barometer is falling rapidly. Also around 2320 some snow crystals show heavy riming and driven by the wind sounded like sleet coat but was't sleet yet. I do expect sleet later tonight.
Feb 13      0100 hrs.   0.5  0.13  27.3   The graupel transitioned over to sleet around 0020 but even by 0045 a little light snow was mixed in the sleet and ice grains. Snow boards were cleared at midnight. This is important because the weight of the sleet is settling and reducing the 4.6 inch snow depth. This measurement was mostly sleet and graupel and just a little snow.
0200 hrs.   0.6  0.25  28.2  Sleet with very little snow mixed in during the first 35 minutes of this period and winds continued to increase with a gust of 30 mph at 0130. Then at 0140 a little freezing rain was mixed in with the sleet and will probably soon go to all freezing rain by 0300.
0230 hrs.   0.6  0.36  29.1  Sleet and freezing rain turned to all freezing rain between 0220 to 0225
   0300 hrs.   0.6  0.44  29.5
   0400 hrs.   0.6  0.56  30.6
   0500 hrs.   0.6  0.75  31.3
   0600 hrs.   0.6  0.79  31.9
0700 hrs.   0.6  0.81   32.1   The above data shows the amount of freezing rain. Ice on twigs is about 0.2 on the upper surface and 0.1 inch on the lower surface. The house vinyl is coated with ice on th east and north sides. Screens on windows on the windward side have enough ice that you can't see out of the window.
0800 hrs.   0.6  0.81  31.6  Currently a very light drizzle but hardly discernible and the temperature is 0.5 °F lower than at 0700.
1423 hrs.   0.6  0.87  32.8  We have had two lightning strikes in the area and hail that was pea size and then sleet. It is still sleeting at 1434 but not enough to measure yet.
1700 hrs.   0.9  1.01  32.8  Snow started again with large flakes of aggregates of many crystals at 1625 and the temperature is also falling now. The added 0.3 inches of snow plus the 0.6 inches of sleet and snow that occurred after midnight gives the 0.9 inches or a total of 5.5 inches for the storm.
1800 hrs.   1.0  1.02  32.8  Very light snow rate this past hour and the temperature is the same.
   2000 hrs.   1.1  1.04  32.9  A very light snow is still falling.
